At the moment we have been able to get our monthly consumption down to 500 KWhr/mo or 6,000 KWhr per year. To have an idea of cost to install Solar panels on our house as part of the Ontario Micro-FIT program that pays us 31.1 cents* (subject to change) for every KWhr we produce we obtained the below quote from a local installer for 21 - 280 watt Solar panels that would generate 7,290 KWhr / year = $2,267 / year income
I was surprised by the Total cost of $22,494.45 including Tax (+ Hydro Connection fee of $1,525.50) since it was $60,000+ 8 years ago when we first looked into the MicroFit Program. At that time Contracts were being signed for 80 cents per KWhr.
This quote does not include any batteries since it is Grid tied. I was told that I can later tie this system directly into my house to provide power I will need to get a quote for that also .... Stay tuned.
These are the Solar Panel Specifications: http://www.canadiansolar.com/fileadmin/user_upload/downloads/datasheets/v5.4/Canadian_Solar-Datasheet-CS6K-M_v5.4C2en.pdf
Wow people like you are why are hydro costs are so high!! making everyone pay for your grid power!! It would be a great Idea if you did this and did not tie into the grid. Stay off the grid and help people that are fighting to pay their hydro bills.
ReplyDeleteBy the time your loan is paid off the panel will be outdated. Wait if you can, till we change governments.
ReplyDeleteyes it was higher, 80 cents 8 yrs ago & these amounts is what put the hydro bill up so high...this is why people have to choose between paying their bill or eating...the government has been crucified about paying these high subsidies as the company's are getting rich off the backs of low income families & seniors
ReplyDeleteTalking to industry experts I'd wait since the price of much better technology in solar is coming. You will be able to install this system for $2 k ....
ReplyDeleteExpensive for what it is ....
ReplyDeleteI would wait for better battery Technology and then Go Off the Grid.
ReplyDeleteGreat pleasure reading your post. Its full of information, thanks for sharing.
